Gargnano is one of the few towns on the lake that has retained its original charm. Its residents live in peace without being too disturbed by tourism and yet have access to a multitude of activities nearby.
Despite being so picturesque, many tourists pass it and don't notice it, which is a blessing in disguise for those that do! The town has a pretty Harbour and a main street full of traditional shops. The pride of Gargnano however is the famous "Villa Feltrinelli" which is one of the most famous hotels in the world.
It is a good starting point for excursions across or around the lake and up in the surrounding mountains. If you enjoy the challenge of mountain driving, we encourage you to drive up to the reservoir at Valvestino lake. The road starts just outside of town, and if you continue past Valvestino, you can also reach Lake Idro located on the opposite side of the mountains. From here you can either continue north via Lake Ledro to Riva, or to the south, where you will come back to Salo.
