On the southwest shore of Lake Iseo is the growing capital city Iseo. It is a lively and pleasant town with a beautiful lakeside promenade, Lungolago Marconi, which is full of shops with homemade specialties, clothing stores and jewellery stores as well as cafes and restaurants. The city's historic centre stems around Piazza Garibaldi with a fountain and a statue of the Italian brand of the same name.
One of the city's main attractions is the church of Sant'Andrea, which was founded in 600 BC, but today, it is as it was in the 1100's. The church has retained its Romanesque bell tower and is beautifully decorated with frescoes and paintings, and one of the paintings depicting Saint Michael, with his spear about to pierce the dragon - was painted by the famous painter Francesco Hayez. From the harbour you can join a walking tour, take a water tour, or take an excursion to the island Monte Isola which is among other things, known for its handmade fishing nets.
