It is deeply unfair that many associate the name Salo with the sad years of Italian history, where the so-called Social Italian Republic ruled over the northern half of the country. During these they years, the fascist reign of terror was known as the Salò Republic.
When you see this adorable little town along Lake Garda's western shore with its cosy centre, it is difficult to imagine anything more charming. The main road that runs around the lake does not enter the centre of the town so you will not be bothered by traffic.

Salo has one of the longest streets of Lake Garda, as well as on of the best shopping streets which has a lot to offer. It has one of the biggest markets in the lake which takes place every Saturday morning.
