Tignale is the name of the area located high above the western edge of Lake Garda to the north of Gargnano. There is an amazing view over the lake and towards Monte Baldo, the mountain on the eastern side of the lake.
The town dates from the 20th century and was completely cut off from the towns along Lake Garda for many years. The city's inhabitants lived by cultivating oil, wine and wood are exchanged them for other commodities. Later in the 1960s the city was discovered, and since then people have come to town to enjoy the magnificent views and nature. From Tignale, there are many scenic excursions over the mountains to the Lakes Idro and Tremosine, another beautiful area slightly to the north. Tignale is both picturesque and peaceful but not the best base if you are planning trips to Verona or Venice – you can only take one road and it’s a long drive. Tignale is best enjoyed for its stunning views and location in the southernmost part of the Dolomites.
