Toscolano Maderno is one of the many quaint harbour towns located on the western side of Lake Garda. The town originally consisted of two towns, namely Toscalano and Maderno, but they have gradually grown together over the years until they eventually formed one larger town with a shared name. It is located north of Gardone Riviera and is a great starting point for trips around and on Lake Garda.

Toscolano Maderno is connected via a small ferry that sails to the town of Malcesine on the east side of the lake several times daily. The journey takes approx. ½ hour, and the price is affordable. That way you can save a lot of kilometres of driving, and the locals also use this service.

Toscalano Maderno is also just a few kilometres north of the town of Salo, where there is a fairly good and fast connection to the motorway (Venice - Milan). If you drive a little to the north in the direction of the cosy town of Gargnano, you can take a mountain road and visit the dammed lake Valvestino and from there over to Lago d'Idro. It is an incredibly beautiful drive with some challenging narrow mountain roads.
