Pesara has around 100,000 residents making it the second most populated city in the Marche region after Ancona. It has quite a cosmopolitan atmosphere, without being bothered by a lot of noise and chaos.
Pesaro offers a beautiful and atmospheric city centre with lots of shops, cafes and historical monuments. There is the opportunity to experience Rossini's childhood home, which today is a museum, an interesting art museum (Musei Civici) with historical works by a number of renowned local artists. Also there is the Archaeological Museum and several churches from different eras. Every year in August, 'Il Rossini Opera Festival, is held where, as the name suggests, you can enjoy the recital of various works by Rossini.
