On holiday with a mountain bike you will experience the surroundings even more than normally. You can bring your MTB with or rent it on arrival at your resort, a veritable playground for your feet in the form of Italy's hills, valleys and mountains. In many regions of the country you will get close to an unspoiled and wild natural experience.
On the bike you can ride to places that are relatively inaccessible and thus you have virtually a guaranteed vision and experience far away from the mainstream tourism.
Italy allows you wild panoramas and exciting terrain at about any level.
If you fancy challenging ascents between dramatic peaks, your choice as a mountain biker in the boot-shaped country is large. We can recommend the mountainous regions of Piedmont, Lombardy and South Tyrol. If you are not that adventurous and you just want it to be fun, also plenty of possibilities to check. For example you could consider the stunning route through the nature park at Sauze d'Oulx in Piedmont. This route at the border of France is incredibly beautiful and the terrain is relatively gentle.
Or perhaps an island vacation on a mountain bike? On the scenic and historically fascinating islands of Sardinia and Sicily parts of the coast offer delight stretches to move around on the bike. Also Toscana is very inviting with its mountains and its hilly landscape. Of course here you can also think of another iron horse for the more robust and different terrain types. At Lake Garda you can also get great pleasure from your bike and it's a very good way to get to see large parts of both the lakeshore and the countryside around Italy's largest and perhaps most beautiful lake.
Round trip or day trips - you decide
There are of course several ways to organise a mountain bike holiday in Italy. Many elect to bring their bike from home, though in most major cities, and places with much tourism, you can also rent bikes easily. Some resorts, particularly those located near nature reserves in mountain areas, provide decent mountain bikes for their guests, so in this way you can easily and conveniently can take day trips out into the countryside around your holiday home.
Perhaps you would like to make your mountain vacation a tour where you cycle between different cities, attractions and natural areas, and live a night or two in various apartments on your way. Or you will use your holiday home as a base from where you use the mountain bike to take long, good forays into the region and look at everything the area has to offer.
