This little town has about 800 inhabitants. Castelnuovo Calcea is beautifully located on high ground in the middle of an undulating landscape full of vineyards. In this area wine is produced from the grape varieties Barbera, Grignolino, Cortese and of course Dolcetto. This is not a town where you can spend days exploring cultural treasures, but it does have both a castle and a church from the 17th century. Whichever way you look at it, the foremost attraction of the town is its scenery and the views surrounding it. It really is picturesque. There are pizzerias as well as a restaurant, bars and various shops. The famous wine towns of Asti and Alba are only 21 and 32 km away respectively. If one day you want to get away from other tourists and visit a large fine wine town, then Acqui Terme is only 27 km away.
