In the valley at the foot of the impressive mountains are a number of charming villages with a rich history and distinctive culture such as Alagna, Gressoney, Issime, Rimella, Macugnaga and Formazza. Come here to experience the best in mountaineering and for the very fit, you can even reach the highest mountain hut in Europe - Punta Gnifetti at 4559 metres.
A lift from Alagna takes you to Salati pass, at 2980m, which in turn shortens the approach to the high peaks of Monte Rosa, and during winter offers great possibilities for skiing and free-riding.
