From the hotel you are centrally located in Alghero and in just 100 metres you can be in the historic district where you will discover much charm and atmosphere. The location and the modern wellness centre are the hotel's strengths, whereas the deco in the hotel is not exactly modern. However it has air conditioned rooms with balconies, and there is a beautiful view from the breakfast room which is located on the rooftop terrace.
If you have a surge of energy.. you'll find the gymnasium in the wellness area in the basement which is modern in contrast to the rest of the hotel. Otherwise for relaxing, you'll also find the pool here, a sauna, a Turkish bath, salt cave and a jacuzzi. There is an elevator in the hotel that goes both up to bedroom-floors and down to the wellness centre. There is free access to the swimming pool for hotel guests, while the other facilities in wellness area subject to surcharges.

We arrived to Alghero and Hotel La Margherita late Christmas day. Rain, stormy and cold weather. We arrived to our rooms and went to bed. A new day, the sun was up. We went down to the breakfast area, which was typically Italian. Which don't need further explanation. I must add that our room had a little balcony with a table and two chairs, so we could sit and enjoy the sun. There were a rooftop where you can enjoy the sun as well, and they serve food there in high season. In high season we would have add 4 stars.
We took a detour in Alghero, no tourists, just us and the local people. There were outdoor serving when the sun was up.
We bought access to the 'spa-facilities' back at the hotel. Bathrobes, slippers included in the price. The spa-facilities included hot water pool, jacuzzi and lounge area.Everything was nice and clean. We went to the spa for one hour daily. Its possible to get some different spa treatments as well.
The staff at the hotel was kind and friendly. The food at the restaurants was good and cheap.
You can wonder why we go to Sardinia during the winter - but we like to celebrate New Years Eve different places around Europe. This New Year, we ate at the local restaurant with the local people, where the local chefs created some local dishes. It was SOOO good! I would say that you definitely can go on vacation in South Europe, even if its winter. Thanks to Marcus for the help.
