The Arab Prince Agha Khan discovered the area in 1960 and before that the area was almost uninhabited and consisted more or less of rocks and small deserted beaches with a few local fishermen. Aga Khan formed the consortium Costa Smeralda with a group of co-founders who started to buy more than five thousand acres of land piece by piece, until they eventually owned Costa Smeralda, as we know it today.
Enjoy views over the blue bay from the famous town square in Porto Cervo and wander the maze of alleyways and steps that meander around the town centre. The city was built with new houses that are made to appear as old restored houses, and the architecture is characterized by round arches, low buildings and pastel-coloured walls. Here you will find a large selection of high brand stores like Cartier, Prada, Gucci and jewellery shops that just fit right into the jetsetter's lifestyle.
