Santa Lussurgiu is a town with about 2,500 inhabitants, located in the mountains behind Oristano. It is situated on Montiferru eastern slopes, an ancient now extinct volcano, whose traces are still visible. Near the city center, one can still see the edge of the crater, which has now been inactive for about 1.5 million years.
During the carnival the street Via Roma is transformed into race track for the historic and exciting horse racing Carrela 'e Nanti, which is the towns biggest yearly event.
