The towns main attraction is probably the medieval castle 'Castello dei Ventimiglia', built in the 14th century. The castle is perched high on a hill (Colle di San Pietro d'Ypsigro), just outside the town centre and appears magnificent and impressive.

The people of Castelbuono live a quiet life still characterized by ancient traditions. For example, the waste is collected by donkeys, not garbage trucks! Many of the city"s streets are so narrow that a truck could not get down them anyway!

The towns main attraction is probably the medieval castle 'Castello dei Ventimiglia', built in the 14th century. The castle is perched high on a hill (Colle di San Pietro d'Ypsigro), just outside the town centre and appears magnificent and impressive. It is accompanied by a bit of fun as there is a small anecdote to the castle, it was in fact used in Giuseppe Tornatores masterpiece 'My evenings in paradise' where they pretended that it was little Toto's school. The town is also known for its worship of slow food , and if you want to enjoy a particularly special meal, you should visit the restaurant 'Nangalarunni' which serves wonderful dishes and delicious wines in an intimate and homely environment. One can get to Castelbuono by bus from both Palermo (1 1/2 hour) and from Cefalu (1/2 hour).
