San Demetrio Hotel is well situated in the town centre of Catania, 5 minutes walk from the port and approx. 1.5 km from the main railway station. It's a perfect resting place to enjoy all that Catania has to offer.
The bed & breakfast is housed in an old mansion house which is located in the busy shopping street of Via Etnea . In addition to the many shopping opportunities in the bustling neighbourhood, there are at least as many restaurants and cafés so options for dining and leisure are endless. Catania's sights are all within easy reach and just around the corner you can find Catania's cathedral (1070–1093, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake) and the cities symbol Liotru, or the Fontana dell'Elefante, assembled in 1736 by Giovanni Battista Vaccarini. Nearby is the pleasant old street Via Crociferi , and Piazza Dell'università and also the Porta Uzeda and its fish market. Continuing in the other direction of Via Etnea you can find Bellini's Garden, the largest and most beautiful park in the centre of Catania. There is a market everyday in nearby Piazza Carlo Alberto.
We don't recommend that you bring a car to Catania as the traffic is busy and it's cheap and easy to get to and from the airport from the city centre (bus ticket costs around 1 euro), however, there is the possibility of parking the car in the palace courtyard by pre-ordering and paying an additional cost - in terms of safety, there is a police station in the yard so security is excellent!

The rooms are on the second floor of the building and there is a lift. You will be greeted by Brigida, the owner's wife who is welcoming and friendly. She is from Holland but is well versed in the Sicilian language and ways. Breakfast is included in the price but it isn't great. However, the streets of Catania are well known for their 'Street Food' so you can find anything you want to appease your appetite at anytime of the day.
The rooms all have high ceilings. There are 6 rooms in total and they are all equipped with a private bathroom / toilet, air conditioning, wi-fi internet access and television. Three of the rooms have a balcony that overlooks Via Etnea and you can easily enjoy the sunshine while you sit there and watch at the busy Catanians or read a book. These rooms can accommodate three guests and four guests in one room. With regards to the three other rooms that do not have balconies, they cost less and can accommodate two people.
