Grand Hotel et des Palmes is a part of Sicilian and European history. This elegant 4-star hotel lies right in the heart of the old Palermo. Many decisions have been taken here by famous and powerful figures that have influenced the history of Sicily.
The mafia bosses used to meet here in their heyday in the 1950s and 60s when they were still able to control the island reasonably undisturbed. But many other important people, who have contributed quite differently to society, also stayed in the hotel. Richard Wagner lived and composed here, and the list of politicians, authors, actors and other celebrities who have lived here through the years, seems never ending.
Although the hotel today may seem a shadow of its former grand self, and possibly a little faded around the edges, it offers all the comfort you would expect from a 4-star hotel. Its historic presence is something more modern and highly polished hotels can only dream about.
In many ways the hotel represents the rise and fall of Palermo, here you find luxury next to poverty. The bedrooms are not all equally grand, only some of them have been renovated over the past few years.
