Portorosa is situated between Tindari and Milazzo, facing the Lipari Islands with Mount Etna in the background. It makes a great base for a sailing trip on the sea around Sicily and inland on the island. You can also hire smaller boats and cars. We recommend the following excursions: - Messina including a trip to the Santissima Annunziata dei Catalani 13th century church, the 12th century cathedral, the Orion fountain from 16th century and the Neptune fountain, the Montalto sanctuary, the Jesus King Temple and the San Salvatore fortress, which was built by the Spaniards in the 16th century. - Ganzirri, a little fishing town on the banks of Lake Pantano Grande, where they breed seafood. - Milazzo with its 16th century wall, the medieval castle, which was restored by Frederik II in the 13th century, the old cathedral in Renaissance style and the new cathedral. - The Aeolian Islands: all these islands are worth a visit because of their unique natural beauty and fantastic views – a real paradise.
