Scillichenti is a small town in the municipality of Acireale. It is situated between the sea and Mount Etna, approx. 6 km from the more famous town of Acireale. There is not much to find in the city itself apart from orange and lemon groves. Shopping and dining options are available in the nearby towns Riposto, Anta Tecla, Stazzo and the Acireale.
The name of the city is quite difficult to pronounce for the Italians themselves! It comes from the Sicilian verb sciddicari meaning slide. For indeed, the area was once quite dangerous for donkeys and mules which were the main means of transport at the time, because of the volcanic rock slides.
