The town has been inhabited since prehistoric times and still bears signs of the Roman era. Today the town is the biggest on the northern coast of the lake and as well as being a tourist magnet, has its own busy town with around 15,150 inhabitants.
The town has nice piazzas and streets where you can wander and find numerous restaurants and shops. There is also a place where you can hire a mountain bike and take a trip on two wheels. You'll also find a horse-riding centre nearby. There are more restaurants in great locations on the way up to Lago di Tenno, as well as a fantastic one in Arco (Terrazza della Luna) which is 4 km north from Riva del Garda.

Riva del Garda makes a good base for trips to Lake Iseo, Lake Tenno, Lake Ledro, Lake Toblino and excursions to the Dolomites. We recommend a trip to Cascata di Varone, a waterfall about 3.5 km from the town centre. Your children will be delighted to visit to the amusement parks of Gardaland and Caneva, both located towards the south of the Lake. You can also use the great ferry services to visit many other towns on the lake including Brenzone, Desenzano del Garda, Peschiera sul Garda, Malcesine and more.
