Selva di Val Gardena or Wolkenstein ii Grödnertal is the same city and valley. In Val Gardena three languages are spoken, German as we are in South Tirol, Italian because it is the official language and Ladino, an ancient Latin dialect that has survived in some of the most closed valleys in the mountains.
Selva is a small town not far from Santa Cristina, it is a cozy town with its beautiful traditional houses and beautiful church, and its proud Tiroler traditions. The center is very charming with its characteristic mountain church and old Tiroler buildings. There are several restaurants with both Tiroler and Italian specialties

From Selva there is access to the lower part of the valley's big lift system through St. Cristina, and then Selva offers further access to both Sella Ronda and Dolomiti Superski. It is easy to get to Selva and Val Gardena, driving the Brenner to Chiusa, where you turn from the highway and continue the road for a while before turning into the valley. The road used to be easy, but bring for precaution some snow chains.
