Castelfranco Veneto is a cozy medieval town, which is just 25 km west of Treviso and about 35 km northwest of Venice. The city was founded in 1195 by Trevisanerne as defense against the two powerful cities of Padua and Vicenza. Later the town belonged to Venice, to come under Austrian rule from 1814 to 1866. Today Castelfranco just a cozy town, which is characterized by the large fortification located right in the center, which is still surrounded by a moat on four sides. The city has a lot of interesting attractions, which in itself makes the city worth a visit - but Castelfranco is also a good starting point for excursions into the surrounding area. It is natural to take a trip to Venice, Treviso, Padua and Vicenza. But one must not miss the exciting and very beautiful wine region, which is about 30 km north of the city, and especially famous for its Prosecco wine, but also for all the quaint towns that "sprinkle" out of the vineyards. There is always life in Castelfranco, and the city has a good selection of restaurants and cafes.
