Garda town is the capital of Lake Garda and it is most attractive due to its huge sheltered bay with dramatic hills behind, a large beach and many restaurants along the lake shore. You can spend many an hour wandering around the quaint streets with cute shops and cafes, as well as days on the beach and swimming in the lake.

Getting to Garda

Getting here is easy since the nearest airport of Verona is just 36 km away. From Verona there are bus services during the summer months to Garda and other resorts around the lake. The train service will also take you from Verona Porta Nuova station to Peschiera del Garda some 18 km south of Garda town, and from here you can take the bus to Garda town.

Dine along the promenade

There is a great little promenade along the lake where you will have plenty of restaurants, ice cream parlours and shops. to choose from. It is only a few miles to the equally charming if slightly more sophisticated wine town of Bardolino from here, and if you want to do some serious shopping, then it's off to Via Mazzini in Verona. Your children will be delighted to visit to the amusement park Gardaland and Caneva, both located within a half hour drive from here.

Get active on the lake

There is plenty to do on and around the lake. You can for example rent your own boat with a motor, hire a pedalo, or take a tour on the Lake Garda ferries and let someone else do the navigating. There are two car ferries crossing the lake between Limone/Malcesine and Torri del Benaco/Maderno and otherwise foot passenger ferries from Garda to Desenzano del Garda, Peschiera sul Garda, Riva del Garda and more. You can also learn to sail on the lake. For keen cyclists, you can follow the scenic lake paths that go from Garda to Bardolino and Lazise.
