"Valpolicella" is a term that originated in the 1100's when two small towns in the valley were fighting for independence. The name itself comes from the Latin, expressing "the valley with wine cellars". Today the economy of Valpolicella is based heavily on wine production, above all, Amarone and Recioto. The main grapes are Corvina, Veronese, Rondinella and Molinara.
