At the same time, you can then yourselves at the many small local restaurants in the evening and you can be sure that you will not meet many tourists in these parts.
The area is also ideal if you want to combine a holiday on Lake Garda with the opera in Verona. Sona is actually located midway between the two places and only approx. 10 km away from each. During recent years, the locals have started to market this area as "Colline Moreniche del Garda" hence tourist numbers are in-fact starting to increase. The area stretches from Castiglione delle Stiviere south of Desenzano Sommacampagna and just west of Verona. It consists of gentle rolling hills, small lakes and the river Mincio which is really an outlet for Lake Garda. The main source of income is agriculture, but there are also many who have begun to rent out rooms as Bed & Breakfasts, agriturismo, or country houses converted into small hotels. There are several very good restaurants in the area, including several with Michelin stars but also many locals eateries which are family run. You will find the mother in the kitchen and the brothers and sisters serving and that most of their ingredients are home-grown where possible.
