You will certainly appreciate the hotel's excellent taste and enjoy the quiet courtyard at all hours of the day, whether it is with a cappuccino in one hand and a croissant in the other - or just to take a break from the city after a busy day of sightseeing.
Situated midway between the arena and the train station, approx. 800 m to both of them, the Hotel Scalzi enjoys a great location. The station is convenient, both if you travel by public transport - and if you want to visit other cities such as Venice. In addition to having the entire Verona's historic centre outside the front door, so is the landing jetty Ponte Scaligero and the square Piazza San Zeno within walking distance. The hotel is located outside the ZTL environmental zone so be careful not to drive in this zone on the way to the hotel. If you ordered a garage space, the staff will direct you to it. It is located approx. 150 meters away.

One of Hotel Scalzi's many advantages is the charming courtyard with flowerpots and garden furniture. It can be used all day long - and you are welcome to enjoy breakfast out here also. One would hardly believe that you were in the middle of a big city when in the courtyard.
Before you step out into the courtyard, you will pass a historic room with a cosy atmosphere where breakfast is served buffet style. Elsewhere in the hotel, you will find a number of nooks and cosy corners. The hotel has been awarded two stars, but the standard of both the rooms and the communal areas more closely resemble that of a 3-star hotel. Since Hotel Scalzi doesn't have a bar or a lift, the third star has not been awarded.
The hotel staff are at your service to assist with arranging excursions, giving advice on the best attractions in Verona, suggestions for wineries in Valpolicella and other practical information. There is Wi-Fi in the hotel which covers most of the public areas. Some rooms also receive quite a good signal, but since it is an old building with thick walls from 1829, the signal doesn't travel so well in places.
These three rooms of approx. 10 m² are nicely decorated and have twin beds, LCD TV with Italian channels, air conditioning and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.
The 13 guestrooms are approx. 12 - 20 m² and are nicely decorated and have LCD TV with Italian channels, air conditioning and a bathroom with a toilet and shower. They are all differently decorated in shape, colour and expression. The rooms are on the 1st floor above reception and about half of them face the street. A few look out onto a shared terrace. It is not possible to add extra beds in these rooms.
These 3 rooms of 22 - 40 sq metres are located in the courtyard, and have a very quiet location. Compared to the standard rooms, these more spacious, ground floor rooms have a tea / coffee corner and even a small refrigerator. The rooms are nicely decorated and have LCD TV with Italian channels, air conditioning and a bathroom with a toilet and shower / bath. An extra bed is not possible. One of the superior rooms consist of two rooms, while the other two consist of one large room with a loft.
We were lucky, since our standard room was not available, we were allocated the suite for the same price. A very nice house right in the yard. See the green door on the picture?
Right there was the entrance of our suite. New bathroom, large shower and everything was very well maintained. When you enter the suite, you inmediately arrive in the living area, which is equipped with sofa, wardrobe, TV and small coffee / tea corner. Directly opposite, we had a large glass sliding door and exactly behind this door was the bathroom. The towels were replaced every day. To the left of the entrance is a beautiful wooden stairs leading up to the open bedroom. We were here at the end of March .... You can also book this suite in winter, because it has an underfloor heating. (We had to ask to turn it off, because it was too hot for us) When you walk through the yard, you arrive to the breakfast room. ... Breakfast is varied and sufficient. German coffee but also espresso and cappuccino, sausage and cheeses. The location is perfect for trips to Venice, Lake Garda, Venice, Milan ...etc. There are regular train connections, even several departures within an hour, but if you want to save time, you should choose the regional trains, and you can choose the fast regional trains.
The only negative experience was that we had no internet connection in the suite.
It looks shady from the outside, but once you get inside, there is a sweet receptionist, pretty surroundings and good rooms for the price. Lies very central, with parking options, along with a couple hundreds of meters to the old town. All in all a good hotel for the price.
