Arcidosso lies on the eastern side of the largest mountain in Tuscany, the big old extinct volcano Monte Amiata. The deep forests around the town provide a magnificent area for long or short walks, and the town, like the whole area, is relatively unspoiled by tourism. Up here you can still eat well for a modest sum. Arcidosso has a charming medieval centre and the near the town are several exciting sights: for example the Roman monastery Abbadia Santa Maria a Lamulas and the Renaissance church Chiesa della Madonna Incoronata.
