Located in the mountains, built at the confluence of the Magra and Aulella rivers, watching over the Via Francigena pilgrimage route where this was an important trade route and spiritual center in antiquity. Aulla is a medium-sized city with about 10,000 residents. Do not expect impressing architecture, as the city was seriously bombed during WWll.
The town lies along one of the main hubs of the Tyrrehnske Sea and the Po Valley. It is easy to get from here to both Versilia's good sandy beaches and Liguria eastern part of the protected national park Le Cinque Terre and Portofino Reserve. As well as the Po Delta cities of Parma, Cremona, Piacenza and others . It is not far from Lucca and Pisa. If you choose to stay in or Aulla, it is mainly the mountains and hiking trails up here that will surely form the wings of your stay.
