The cities and towns on the coast of Tuscany all vary dramatically, from the 'old lady' Viareggio with its Art Nouveau hotel collection to the fashionable Forte dei Marmi. There are further charming towns with such as Tirrenia, Cecina Mare, Marina di Massa and Marina di Pisa which all offer something different. Some smaller towns such as Castiglioncello and San Vincenzo have managed to preserve part of their original character and are inhabited all year round.
The beaches in Tuscany are mostly sandy, and in and around Vada in particular you will find long stretches of fine white sand. There is plenty of entertainment and attractions to keep you amused and especially if you are travelling with children. The beaches in Tuscany are particularly crowded during the peak season, but if you consider visiting outside the peak months of July and August, you will find a bit more space and generally lower accommodation prices are general.
