It must be said that just the wines are not the only reason why you may find the word "Carmignano" in a guidebook here and there. One of the few examples found in "Lonely Planet - Tuscany & Umbria", where it is noted that there has been wine production since 1396.
The other main attraction of the town is the church of San Michele e Francesco (12th century), which houses a "Visitation" by the Renaissance master Pontormo.
