This marvellous old mansion is only 5 km from the little known and unspoilt medieval town of Castiglion Fiorentino in the southeastern corner of Tuscany, not far from Arezzo, Cortona and Umbria.
The 18th century villa has recently been sympathetically restored so that the original features have been preserved. This is definitely not a run-of-the-mill place. If you like modern houses, where everything is sterile and perfect, then you have come to the wrong place. However, if you seek a place that oozes history, and where you feel more like you have arrived on a mid 19th century country estate, then you have come to the right place. Most of the furniture has been around for more than 100 years, and has never been anywhere else. The papered walls, the Venetian chandeliers, the beds, everything reminds you of a bygone age. Sometimes it almost feels as if you are in a museum.
The diametrical opposite of this villa, as far as style, furnishing and atmosphere is concerned, would be Villa Il Laghetto. We are pleased, however, that the bathrooms, mattresses and heating systems here are modern! There is only one small point that stops us awarding this place five sole: One of the bedrooms in the annex is unimaginatively furnished.
In front of the villa there is a yard and a shady garden, reminiscent of an English park. It has a 12 x 6 m swimming pool.
