You will find this charming renovated farmhouse in the hills above Lucca. It is on two floors and the top floor is rented. The owner keeps the ground floor for himself, but is not often there as he lives elsewhere. It is nicely furnished in general.
The house sits serenely outside the village, and you have to walk the last 150 metres on foot as the gravel road to the house is narrow and very steep. You could drive up towards the house to unload and park. It is not entirely cut off from the outside world: in 2013 they have a Wi-Fi internet connection, and they also added satellite TV.

The pool is located below the house in a nice garden, measuring 7.30 x 3.70 metres and the part of it is dug into the ground, the rest is raised since the land slopes, the half which faces the house is completely sunken. In the cosy little garden there is a table, chairs, loungers, a barbeque and a nice view. In addition to the small pool there is also a bath with hydro-massage of 1.5 x 1.5 metres.
The apartment is location on the 1st floor and has a lovely kitchen with a four burner stove, an oven and a washing machine. The owner lives on the ground floor, and is sometimes there, but not always.
Located on the first floor and consists of a living room with good kitchen facilities (4 burner stove, an oven and a microwave) and a sofa bed for two people, a double bedroom and a bathroom.
Positive:
+ No mosquitoes (almost - saw two in a week)
+ View from the house
+ Climate, it's a bit cooler up there and often a small breeze.
+ Almost no tourists (except for the English neighbours.
+ No mosquitoes - yes I have already mentioned that, but it's just so nice to be able to sit outside after nightfall, without getting eaten. We used absolutely no repellent (e.g. Autan) during our stay.
Negative:
- Very bad mobile signal (maybe not that important on a vacation - weigh that as you wish)
- I definitely didn't want to drive all the way up to the house, due to the fact that the road up there is very steep and twisted. It's so steep, that you shouldn't come to a halt in a front-wheel drive, if you don't want to start over.
However it's only a short walk up the hill, around 3-5 min. Th owner drove our luggage from the car to the house and back again.
A fabulous place and a great base to explore Tuscany, Lucca and the Garfagnana. Franco and his wife are wonderful and will make sure you enjoy your stay to the full. Make sure you tap them for recommendations on restaurants and places to visit In the area. The access road is pretty gnarly
and tight but with some driving skills you will be fine to drive up to and park by the house. The bed is also unusually comfy for Italy. Highly recommended!!!!
