The Serchio River passes through the entire valley which accounts for it's lush green colours, with the Apennines to the east and Apuan Alps to the west creating an impressive backdrop. In short, this is a nature paradise and a great part of Tuscany to base yourselves if you want to hike or bike.
We find that the lower part of the valley is flatter with some industrial areas, but as soon as you move up the slopes and through the small valleys that run out to both sides, the appearance changes radically, and you'll discover a lush changing landscape of majestic mountains, picturesque villages and with castles and churches dotted around.
