A lot of space is required to do justice to the history of Pian dei Mucinis, however we will give you a concise version with all the important bits! Its history is rich and dates back to the 800's when it operated as a farm.

How the place grew

The following centuries saw the addition of several out buildings, and then a church was built in the area. In 1900 when the owner died, the estate was transferred into a summer camp centre for orphans. In the early 1900's it was acquired by a major holiday resort chain and operated this way for some years, until in 2013 when new owners took it over and gave it a thorough restoration and expansion. Now it is a very appealing place for a memorable holiday in historic Tuscany.

Buildings and location

Pian dei Mucini is beautifully situated on the top a hill overlooking the lush green landscape and just 4 km from the medieval town of Massa Marittima. The estate consists of many different buildings that are scattered around a large area offering accommodation in both hotel and apartments. We have chosen not to include hotel rooms since the apartments can be rented on a daily basis most of the year. The apartments are situated in the newer buildings in the residence around the pool area.

Pools and many great facilities

If you like swimming you will not be bored at Pian dei Mucini. There are no less than three pools, one of which is intended for children. The long list of other facilities that you can enjoy here include a fitness room, a wellness centre, a sauna, Turkish bath, tennis court, football pitch, petanque bowls, a piano bar and two restaurants. Like in many resorts in Italy, you will also find entertainment here for both the young children and adults day and night.

Distances

Pian dei Mucini is approx. 4 km away from the charming medieval town of Massa Marittima, where you will find several shops, restaurants and small shops. You can also easily reach the beach, as the main road that leads to Massa Marittima and on to the good sandy beaches of Follonica (about 25 km), passes at the foot of the hill where Pian dei Mucini is located. It is also quite easy to visit the famous cultural cities like Siena and Volterra, as they are both only 60 km away.

Lovely resort

Lovely resort with big pools, good apartments and very kind staff. There are activities for both children and teenagers.
Good pizza bar, but the restaurant with buffet was unfortunately sub-par.
We had a lovely trip and we can warmly recommend this to others.

Lovely place, but what about the food?

Lovely place with great view, nice apartments and communal facilities - especially lovely pool for both larger and smaller children! However we chose this place, because In-Italia's webpage says that there's two restaurants, a pizzeria and a mini market. This is unfortunately incorrect - they had closed the mini market, and there were only one restaurant and a pizzeria. Besides the restaurant only offered a buffet, which partly was expensive (but also good), partly it wasn't child-friendly at all. If we had gotten the correct information before the trip, we had probably chosen another place, so we didn't have to drive around that much to shop/eat at restaurants. The staff in the reception and at the pizzeria/in the bar weren't very service minded and accommodating.
