Massa Marittima as a holiday destination

Lovely place with great view, nice apartments and communal facilities - especially lovely pool for both larger and smaller children! However we chose this place, because In-Italia's webpage says that there's two restaurants, a pizzeria and a mini market. This is unfortunately incorrect - they had closed the mini market, and there were only one restaurant and a pizzeria. Besides the restaurant only offered a buffet, which partly was expensive (but also good), partly it wasn't child-friendly at all. If we had gotten the correct information before the trip, we had probably chosen another place, so we didn't have to drive around that much to shop/eat at restaurants. The staff in the reception and at the pizzeria/in the bar weren't very service minded and accommodating.

The town Massa Marittima is a lovely little town, which easily can be visited several times - good restaurants, cosy local atmosphere, good ice cream, etc.

The location of the resort in the hills of Tuscany is spectacular. The apartments are spacious and offer plenty of space. Ideal for self catering. The complex, pools, apartments are clean. The water fairly fresh in the pools. Annimation o.k. They hardly speak other languages, for children this is difficult The limited supply in Pian dei Mucini Toscana Resort is acceptable and reasonably priced Italian. Unfortunately, the prices in the mini market are relatively high, and it pays to shop at Coop in Massa Marittima or Pam in Follonica.
For the newly introduced "white card" I see no point, simply because it did not work and then it had to be paid in cash. The system offers a lot more potential.
An afternoon coffee on the deck next to the pool, a good restaurant in idyllic Bestlage on the site between the pines with distant views.
The driveway to the lower parking is very washed out and always a challenge for drivers and car - but do able. Alternatively you have a car park above.
The place should be better signposted from Follonica.

Definitely worth a visit is the Fashion Market in Scarlino.

Lovely resort with big pools, good apartments and very kind staff. There are activities for both children and teenagers.
Good pizza bar, but the restaurant with buffet was unfortunately sub-par.
We had a lovely trip and we can warmly recommend this to others.

Recommendations for future guests

Of course you have to see the big cities in the area, but also visit the small, lovely Mediaeval village Massa Marittima 5 km away from the resort. Here you can get a fantastic view from the tower, Torre del Candeliere, eat dinner at the wonderful restaurant, Osteria Da Tronca, where you get great Tuscan food in authentic surroundings at very reasonable prices and end the day with ice cream from Gelateria at Piazza Garibaldi.
