By the small town Montepescini, approx. 25 km south of Siena, lies Agriturismo Il Poggiarello. Here Sauro, Licia and Carlo take pride in letting their guests experience a genuine and traditional way of life in rural Tuscany. Here you fully understand what Miss Lavish meant in the film "Room with a View", when out promenading in the streets of Florence she remarks: "They are all peasants, You know!" because here the cultivated and educated mix with the rural in the fascinating way that is typical for Tuscany.

Il Poggiarello sits on a small hill and is surrounded by 8 hectares of land covered by vines, olive trees, evergreen oaks, and a lake. One of the old farmhouses has been converted to four guest apartments for rent. Visitors can here experience life in a bygone age that was more relaxed, and where stress and haste were unknown concepts. Here you can enjoy the views from the apartments or from the swimming pool in the garden, and possibly digest the experiences with a glass of the farm's own wine.

However, Il Poggiarello does not just exist for visitors. The owner family is proud of their wine production, for although it is small (only 5000 liters a year), it is good. Even though in summer it may be most tempting to reach for a bottle or two of their white wine (made on the classic Tuscan Trebbiano grape), it is probably the red wine that most people would choose. This is a powerful wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. This archetypical Tuscan grape has a high tannin content. It used to be blended with other grapes to give it a more rounded taste, and this is still the case today with the good chianti. However, nowadays winemakers have realized that maturing the wine in wood casks can round it off, and in many places small casks of new French or American oak are used. These can improve the quality of the wine considerably, when used correctly.  This process is also favoured on Il Poggiarello. Try the wine with a good heavy meal!

The swimming pool and garden is at the disposal of guests.
All the apartments are simply, but tastefully furnished and TV and bed linen is provided.
