In a clearing in the middle of the forest, about 8 km from Siena, is Casa Gaia. Listen to the sounds of the birdsong and perhaps of a wild boar or two, but neighbours and noise are far from the agenda. To reach the house, you follow 1300 metres of gravel road.
And yet, there is a neighbouring building, but there is no home ... these cryptic words convey that you will find an abandoned monastery about 50 metres from the house - San Leonardo al Lago, that dates from the 12th Century.

Casa Gaia is surrounded by a large garden where you will find a swimming pool of 9 x 2½ metres (150 cm deep), and two terraces with tables and chairs, one with access from the kitchen, the other from the front door. It is a large house of the type that is more reminiscent of an Italian home than a conventional holiday villa, which means that the furniture is largely antique, the living room is very spacious and there is much attention to detail.
