We had long dreamed of spending a little more time in Tuscany, to live in a local, nice apartment with our own terrace in a small real Tuscan town. Appartamento La Rocca in lovely Palaia fulfilled our dreams and more. We combined lazy days back at the apartment with the town with fantastic trips in Tuscany. Palaia is perfectly located. We visited among others Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano and the Chianti wine districts. Visited an olive farm, where we tried olive oil and outside of San Gimignano we visited a lovely vineyard and tasted wines which we also bought and took with us home.
Pleasant, local and beautifully located with a fantastic view over the landscape. The residents are incredibly kind and curious, we felt we became friends with several people, restaurant owners and others. The restaurant Bacciomeo is definitely worth a visit, we had a fantastic bistecca fiorentina. Likewise is the restaurant Antica Farmacia lovely. There is a couple of shops, but we grocery shopped a couple of times in the nearby Forcoli. Easy to park below our apartment or in a bigger (free) parking lot 50 meters away. Don't miss a walk up to the towns vantage point, La Rocca, with a nice panoramic view over the landscape and the town.
