Even in Tuscany, where beautiful buildings are everywhere, Villa Buoninsegna stands out as something unique and impressive; one could almost describe it as majestic.
The large villa dates from the 16th century, and today it has been renovated to a new glory. It is almost humbling to approach it, but once you meet the kind owners who live here themselves, you start to relax. On the first floor of the villa there is a large room with 10-15 m high ceilings with a fantastic coat-of-arms painted in the middle. In the corners from this there are six splendid rooms all designed in excellent taste with antique furniture.

In the grounds you will find two swimming pools, not one! The owners felt that one pool (10 x 6 metres) was not enough for the six rooms and five apartments, so they constructed another one, 7 x 14 m. From the first floor there is a bridge leading over to the hill behind the villa where you will find the 2nd pool. All the apartments are spacious and have wonderful views over the landscape. Although there are rooms as well as apartments, In-Italia only choose to offer the apartments. The old farm buildings next to the villa have been converted into four apartments, also furnished with antiques, and with a table and chairs just outside the door.
By the way, there are proper wine glasses in the apartments, perhaps due to the fact that wine is also produced on site. If you wish, to make a change from cooking, you can dine onsite two times a week during the high season, which is freshly prepared with their home-grown produce and supplies from other local suppliers.
The villa is surrounded by 320 hectares of land with vineyards, olive groves and woodland, providing plenty of opportunity for short or long walks, as you wish. If you want cafés and the like, Rapolano Terme is only two kilometres away. The motorway connecting Siena with Cortona and the rest of Umbria runs approx. 700 m from the villa making it easy to plan longer and more exciting excursions.
Lovely place, wonderful restaurant - It isn't the owners who cook, as described on your website and we didn't see any home made products.
Buoninsegna is a totally fantastic place to have your holiday. We lived in the Goito apartment, which is a giant apartment/house decorated in a very authentic style and with its own washing machine and dishwasher. So there was a lot of time to enjoy our holiday without all the boring chores. There is 2 pools belonging to the place, so neither of the pools were ever overfilled with people. The town lies a small 2 km away, and there is a lot of good restaurants and places to shop. There is also a spa close by, and it needs to be tried. 39 degree hot water with a clear "smell" of sulphur, and a fun experience for the whole family. The hosts at Buoninsegna are sweet, but you don't seem them very often during week days unless you seek them out. The area itself is filled with lovely towns within a short driving distance, so it is a good basis if you wanna go out and see the wonderful, fantastic Tuscany.
