There are really very few towns along the Tuscan coast that can boast the charm and atmosphere that one finds in San Vincenzo.
Of course, tourism is extremely important for the towns economy, but this is not a typical seaside resort, where everything is dead half of the year as soon at the summer is over. San Vincenzo has a permanent population and an excellent choice of shops, cafes and restaurants. The city also has a train station, with links up and down the coast.
With regards to restaurants, we should mention 'Gambero Rosso', which according to several reviewers is Italy's best restaurant. And then there is indeed a lovely sandy beach in San Vincenzo.
From San Vincenzo it is 20 km toPiombino, where you can take the ferry to the beautiful island of Elba.
