Hotel Relais Il Palagetto is an old country house which has recently been refurbished and converted to a hotel. It is 8 km from Volterra in a tranquil and beautiful location. Originally it was a palagio, i.e. a post station in Roman time, although the present two buildings date back "only" to the 17th century. It has fabulous views over Volterra and the surrounding rolling hills.
The hotel re-opened in April 2004 and is most certainly worth more than the 3 stars it has been officially awarded. The amenities include a reception, quite a large meeting room and a restaurant. Outside there is parking and a swimming pool (10 x 20 m) with sun terrace. The young owner manager has experience from his parents' agritourism business, which is close by and supplies some of the produce for the restaurant.
