Montefalco is a name most familiar to wine lovers, and it is in-fact on the slopes around this town that some of the best wine in Umbria is made. Other than that, it has managed to remain quite unknown despite Montefalco being a very sweet and charming small town.
The landscapes around Montefalco are some of the most beautiful in Umbria and on a clear day, from the town you can see all the way to Spello, Trevi Assisi and Spoleto. Until a short time it was quite unknown despite great writers like Hermann Hesse and Gabriele d'Annunzio singing its praises in the early 1900's. The renowned wine 'Sagrantino di Montefalco might ring a bell to wine enthusiasts, and of course its older brother 'Brunello di Montalcino' are both produced from the crop of the plentiful vineyards in this area. If you haven't tried them before, then we certainly recommend that you try them during your trip to Montefalco or whilst touring the Umbria region in general. They are best enjoyed with solid food since they have a high level of tannins.
