Montone is another one of Umbria's distinctive and charming villages which is set beautifully in the hills of the verdant landscape. It is a typical medieval town with winding streets, picturesque buildings and - since it is on a hill - a nice view of the surrounding landscape. There are of course also a few good restaurants and a couple of lovely cafes. With its location in northern Umbria, Montone is an ideal base for excursions to the south-east of Tuscany, and to exciting cities such as Anghiari, Sansepolcro and of course Arezzo, which tourists have neglected, strangely enough.
