Where the rivers Nestore and Tiber meet in the upper regions of Umbria, you find the small charming town of Verna di Umbertide. This monastery, which now forms part of Agriturismo Nestore, once belonged to the Abbot of Petroia. Later it was passed on to the Rossi family, who today owns both the monastery and the farm.

A character conversion

The old 18th century farmhouse has been converted to eight spacious and well designed apartments with stone floors and antique furniture, that can each accommodate between two and six people. The apartments all have TV, kitchen facilities, telephone and bathroom. You can use the good sized pool (18 x 6m), mountain bikes, free Wi-Fi and various games. There is a comprehensive path system in the woods around the farm where you can go for walks or bike rides of between 4 and 40 km. Within a relatively short distance from the farm, it is also possible to go fishing, horse riding and hire canoes.

Enjoy dinner at the farm

There is a bar in the small village of Verna di Umbertide, but not much else. Fortunately you can enjoy a good and rustic meal at the farm itself several times a week. The nearest station is called Ranchi and from there you can catch the local train, operated by Ferrovia Centrale Umbra, to Umbertide and Perugia. These cities are connected to the state railways.

Apartments

All the apartments are beautifully furnished and restored, and are fitted with telephone and TV. However the kitchen facilities are simple but practical and all have four burners.
Please note: During mid August half board is possible (see supplement below).

Relaxing and lovely atmosphere

The area with big trees is complete pleasure after a visit at the pool. The make super italian food - one menu - which you have to remember to sign up to the day before. When somebody is in the kitchen department then it is possible to get coffee, wine, newly made eggs and the opportunity to get your own tomatoes and herbs in the garden.

Its clean! And the only dirt you see is your own. Its a great place

Hospitality out of the ordinary

We have had 14 fantastic days at Agriturismo Nestore. the place is beautiful, very well-kept and the apartment (Blu) was clean, spacious and with a lovely roof terrace facing east. Every morning we had breakfast in the garden, where we were spoiled by Marionella with omelette, tomatoes, Prosciutto, juice and pastries. Even though she didn't spoke a word of English, we didn't doubt her courtesy and hospitality for a moment. We can only highly recommend eating breakfast there every day - it's worth every euro! The morning our daughter turned 8, Marionella surprised us at breakfast. She had spend the morning baking a pretty Victoria sponge cake with a candle shaped like an 8, and when she carried it to the table, she was bursting with pride. We have, through the entire stay, been overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity.
We had dinner several times at Nestore, and it was lovely, traditional, local food. The place is self-sufficient, so there's no doubt of the ingredients freshness, and this can be tasted. Again, we can highly recommend having dinner at the place. In addition, we had dinner several times at Da Mimma, the restaurant in the pink house at the main road, right before you're turning towards Nestore. They make good pizzas - the children's favourite was Pizza Bavarese (Pizza with chips and sausages :-)).

And then a couple of minor challenges:
You could use a kettle to make coffee/tea.
You could use an oven.
You could use a dishwasher.

Lovely stay at Nestore

We are a family of four with two large teenage children who have enjoyed our spacious apartment at Blu Nestore.
We have appreciated the calm that has been though all the apartments have been fully occupied during the period we were there. Overall, the framework was ideal and we enjoyed the pool, which was wonderful in the heat. The buildings are characterized by careful restoration and beautiful landscaping.
We ate at the on-site restaurant 2 of the 3 times that they were cooking. Incredibly well cooked local produce.

The only thing we lacked was English speaking staff. We need some information about the site's history, local tips and so on. This could be met with a folder in each apartment, which Nestore could have made. Alternatively, the young man who helped serving one night, be there on Saturday for dinner and make a kind of info meeting. He spoke English

We can recommend the place to others, and will gladly come again :-)

FANTASTIC!!!

Nestore was just an amazing experience for us! The place have a wonderful and charming atmosphere. We got to see to other apartment than the original we have booked from home, so we could choose which one of the apartments we would stay in. The one we took was a bigger than the original and for the same price!!
La Signora was a wonderful and kind hostess and cook some great local food, that you don't want to miss.
